American Soldier
B. How do the images work together to tell a story?
The images work together to tell a story by having the same feel to it, the black and white filter and how everything is in focus, giving you everything to look at.
C. How do the captions enhance the photographs?
The captions give it more emotion, instead of you just thinking "boy with gun", you get some background info and learn about who he is, so you know he is just loading and reloading it.
D. Summarize the story of Ian Fisher, based just on the captions.
Fisher signed up for the army when he was just 17, and he struggled with deciding where he wants to stay. He goes through many break ups, home visits, and drugs until he finally goes home, ready to get married.
E. For the photos in which Ian is the main subject of the photos, in what tense are the verbs usually written?
Present tense.
F. Break down the captions:
1. How many sentences are they on average?
Two.
2. Read the first sentence of a couple of them, what information do they provide?
Who, what, when, where, why, how.
3. Read the second sentences of a couple of them, what information do they provide?
Additional info you wouldn't have known without the text.
4. If there is a third sentence, what information does it provide?
Additional info about the second sentence
5. Do any captions include a quote?
Yes.
6. Are there any that have four sentences?
Yes.
G. Why do you think it is possible to tell a complete story with just photos and captions?
With the right information and and quick summary, then you can get enough emotion in it to have people understand.
H. If you can create a story with just photos and captions, why bother writing a story at all?
The captions and photos don't get all the good details about the story. You wouldn't be able to TRULY know who the person who, or how dangerous or delicious or unbelievable something is.
