1. List the changes that were made to the model's face with Photoshop in the computer.
Lips bigger, neck longer, eyebrows and eyes lowered, darkened hair, longer hair, bigger eyes, smaller face shape.
2. List the changes that were made to the model's body with Photoshop in the computer.
They made her skinnier, gave her bigger breasts, a smaller face, bigger eyes, lightened her skin.
3. List the changes that were made to the model with Photoshop in the computer.
Smaller nose, longer legs, longer neck, shinier skin, arched back, plumper breasts, smaller face, bigger eyes, less weight, smaller body, parted her mouth, removed the wrinkles in her feet, skinnier arms.
4. Is it ethically acceptable to change a person's appearance like these in a photo? Why or why not?
Absolutely not! This can lower not only the model's self esteem, but also the girls looking at it because they realize that their bodies do not look like the women's on the billboard and magazine.
5. Are there circumstances in which it would be more ethically wrong to do this type of manipulation?
Changing the way a woman looks by giving her more lustful features (less weight, bigger breasts, change in eyes and face shape, ect.)
6. What types of changes are OK, and what aren't?
OK: The lighting on the model, the length of their hair, color of an outfit
Not OK: changing her weight, breast size, eye size, face shape, length of limbs/neck, something that would change her overall look.
7. Explain what you think the differences are between fashion photography and photojournalism.
Fashion photography, the model is manipulated to make them pleasing to look at and wanting to sell something like makeup or clothes. Photojournalism is more about the overall story, like how this flower looks, or what happened at this natural disaster.
8. What relationship does each type of photography have to reality, and how does this affect the ethical practice of each?
Photojournalism has a closer relationship to reality since the photos you are looking for are much different than what you look for as a Fashion photographer. In Photojournalism, you are looking more for something real, and interesting that tells a story. In fashion photography, you are looking more for something that will sell your audience and something they would want on their bodies.
9. Why do you think I am showing you these three videos?
To open our eyes to how powerful photoshop is and how it can be overused.
10. Why are none of these videos about guys???
Most people who photoshop the women are men who want to over-sexualize the model for their main audience, changing her to the high bar of unrealistic standards that are not even one-fourth as high for men.
